Story

Welcome to my fundraising page! This November I will set out on a challenging, extraordinary and life-changing trek, all in the name of checking chests! I am taking on 100km of Morocco's forbidding Sahara Desert in a bid to raise vital funds towards our life-saving mission.Your donations will not only support my fundraising target, but most importantly CoppaFeel!. They are a charity on a mission to stamp out the late diagnosis of breast cancer by making sure that young people are regularly checking their boobs, pecs and chests and getting to know their bodies in order to have the confidence to see their GP if something just doesn't feel normal. Thanks so much for your donation & support. To find out more about CoppaFeel! head to www.coppafeel.org.

In January 2019, I learnt life is unfair. This was when my mum told my sister and I she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. At this point I was relieved as I thought this was a cancer that doesn’t take lives.

Through the next 9 months I watched my mum suffer through rounds of horrendous chemo, sit for hours with a cap made of ice on her head, I watched her in so much pain, I heard her throwing up, I brushed her matted hair as it inevitably started falling out, I watched her cry, I watched my dad cry, I watch my sister cry, I watched her grow stronger yet at the same time so much weaker.

In November 2019, we learnt life is extremely unfair. This was when she lost her battle to breast cancer, leaving us with a hole in our hearts that will never be filled as we went from a team of 5 to a team of 4.

I don’t remember mum as the physically weak, tired, suffering lady cancer made her - I remember her as the strongest, most courageous lady she was, as no matter how many tears we cried, she always ended up smiling, telling us everything was going to be ok.

Throughout her cancer journey she kept living life - working, camping, going to festivals, a trip to Venice, a trip to the beach in a wheelchair connected up to oxygen, spending time with loved ones, watching rugby, celebrating everyone around her, laughing and loving. She wasn’t going to let cancer stop her living while she could.

So yes, life is unfair but mum showed me we have to make the best of every situation and live the life we want to live despite what it throws at us.

Whilst cancer isn’t something we can always avoid - but being best prepared, checking when something isn’t your normal and catching it at the earliest possible stage will give us the best chance of living the life we want to live. So when something doesn’t feel right, question it without a second thought. Who cares if you’re wrong? This is something I feel very passionate about and everything that CoppaFeel stands for.

I want to raise awareness so more people understand the importance of this simple monthly check and prevent cancer taking anymore loved ones - this is what I am trekking for.

Thank you x
