Waters Wilmslow Half Marathon 2020 · 15 March 2020 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
A lot of you won't know but 3 years ago we spotted a suspicious looking mole on James's arm, after making him go to the doctors they discovered he had stage 1 melanoma, the mole was removed at the Christie and no further treatment was required. He has had to go for check ups every 3 months and in August last year he had mentioned a strange feeling in his lymph node in his armpit like it was swollen. After having numerous investigations, scans and biopsies he was told just before Christmas that they thought the melanoma had spread to his lymph node and this was unfortunately confirmed on the 6/1. He had already decided he wanted to run for the Christie when he signed up for the half marathon but has since found out that he needs to have a full lymph node dissection on the 24/1 (all of his lymph nodes removed from his armpit).
As many of you know he isn't a runner and hasn't ran since football and had only taken it up again at the end of December. He's now been told that the operation will take at least 6 weeks to recover from meaning he won't have any time to train at all but that won't stop him, he will still be taking part and aims to run the whole way.
He is set to start immunotherapy in the near future but we will be finding out more on the 6/2 as to how this will effect him but again he's still insisting on running.
Please donate whatever you can for my strong headed, possibly crazy husband and if you're there cheer him on a long the way any donations will be greatly received.
He promises he'll swap the drips for pat butcher earings for the day
10/3
A little update, it was decided he should start immunotherapy and he is currently receiving his first session....still running on Sunday with 1 run in the bag since his op 🤦♀️😬. They decided immunotherapy was the best option as it reduces the chance of it returning by 50%.
Thank you all so much for the donations, there's no getting out of it now!!
