The Barcelona Marathon turns 40 this year...as do I, just few weeks after the race - 1978 was an excellent vintage year.
My brother Daniel kindly gifted me entrance to the marathon as a birthday present...months of hard, wintery training later and I'm just about ready to go (I have cursed him every step of the way!)
It would be wonderful to take the opportunity to raise money for two charities which are very important to us.
The Chiltern MS Therapy Centre is a source of enormous support to our dad who has lived with MS for over half of his life. The physio, care and advice he receives from the staff there is life-enhancing, for Dad and for Mum, as a carer. They support 330 patients a week and never turn anyone away - but this special and valuable resource is always in need of funds - we would love to be able to to show thanks and support through our running.
The second charity of equal importance is Brighter Futures Zambia. This inspirational charity was set up by our close friends to support a community they had got to know through VSO 10 years ago. Their organisation is run entirely by volunteers ensuring all of the money goes directly to the education and welfare of vulnerable children orphaned by HIV/AIDS in Monze, Zambia. From nothing they have built this charity, achieving incredible feats from very little; bringing children into secondary education, establishing a counseling service / healthy meals scheme and currently they are building a pre-school...all this and I haven't even mentioned the goats (The Good Goat Campaign continues)
We'd love to be able to raise money equally for these two charities so, if possible, please donate to whichever page has a lower total.
This is the Brighter Futures Zambia page and Daniel has set up a page for the Chiltern MS Therapy Centre - here is a link :
