Loch Ness Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·

The Last Chance Hotel works hard to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abused and neglected animals.

Story

“I run but I’m not a ‘runner runner’” is what I’ve said to my friends and family. Before I had started my training I had never run more than 8 miles so this is a huge challenge for me. I am now running up to 17 miles so the training plan and determination really does work! I am so nervous as my knees really hurt around mile 12 but I am also so excited!

I’ve wanted to feel challenged mentally and physically so in 2020 I booked a place to run the Loch Ness Marathon. I bought a van so as I could drive from Cornwall to Inverness to run and raise money for a local charity ‘The Last Chance Hotel Animal Rescue & Rehome’. But like most things the race got cancelled as I was half way through my training plan. I converted my van during the winter lockdown 2021 and I’ve redone all the training…I set off on the road next month!

Aside from it being a personal achievement of mine and wanting to test what my mind and body can do, I am very passionate about animal welfare and the environment. I believe that we are all equals and that the voiceless should be treated with respect and compassion so I would love to raise any amount of money to help support a local charity and raise awareness for all that they do. The Last Chance Hotel is a dog rescue based in Cornwall and the volunteers, all unpaid, work so hard at rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abused and neglected dogs and other animals. I think what they do is just so heartwarming and admirable so if there is any way I can help for them to have a happier future without fear then I would love to.

The Loch Ness Marathon is said to be one of the most beautiful settings in the world taking you along the south-eastern shores of Loch Ness, across the River Ness, to finish in Inverness, capital city of the Highlands.
