Story

I have two hats , I am part of the fundraising team at St Mary's and I am a participant on the 2021 Everest Base Camp Challenge. I see every day the incredible work the nurses and Drs and Family Bereavement Support Team are doing supporting families through the hardest of times. St Mary's is a wonderful place, full of love and at times laughter and it is a real privilege to work alongside such a dedicated and compassionate team. Now even more so the nurses are out in the front line  in the response to Covid 19 working alongside their NHS colleagues both in the community and at Furness General Hospital.

Many of St Mary's fundraising events which are so well supported by our incredible community have been cancelled or postponed, which will have huge financial impact .

Working from home in Penny Bridge/ Greenod for the past few weeks has brought home to me how lucky I am to live where I do ,  in a community full of friendly supportive faces , People who genuinely look out for each other. We also have a butcher and village shop , staying open to feed us all. We are very lucky.

I wanted to do something that might generate a some funds for St Mary's as well as say thank you to my local community.

With a broken ankle at the moment I can't do anything physical to raise funds so with the help of two teenagers at home came up with the idea of a cake lottery for the village.

We have entered every house in the village. Each morning for 26 days I will bake a cake , we will then pull a house out of the hat and the girls on their daily walk will leave a cake parcel on the winners doorstep.

Everyone is entered they do not have to donate to St Marys( although donations would of course be welcome) I just want to raise a smile and show my gratitude.

Thank you for your support

Ali
