Most of you will know that last November I travelled to Ethiopia with a group of other Health professionals to understand Midwifery care and the challenges in Ethiopia. During my visit I became fascinated and inspired by the remarkable work that is being undertaken to improve maternal and child health outcomes. In particular I was humbled to witness the dedication of Catherine Hamlin who alongside her husband founded the Hamlin Fistula Hospital in Addis Ababa which provides life changing care, performs surgery and follow-up for Ethiopian women affected by this devastating Childbirth injury, some of which are are only in their early teens.

Hamlin Fistula relies on financial support of charitable trusts. As one of a group of people each committed to raising a target of £2500 by November, we will travel to Addis Ababa to take part to visit the hospital and midwifery school. I will also be taking part  in the Great Ethiopian Run- Africa's biggest road race- and of course completing this is a personal challenge for me!
