Story
This year, I have decided to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon for A Little Gesture. For those that know me, you know I try to exercise when I can but that often translates to a quick run every now and then rather than being a runner by any measure! (my kids will attest to this as when i asked them the other day whether I looked like an athlete when they saw me out running, they collectively and without a seconds' thought said "NO"!)
BUT having run the Royal Half for another charity last year, and to my surprise, actually making it to the finish line (!), I decided to sign up again and do what I can to raise much needed funds for another charity.
A Little Gesture supports over 2000 children in Mozambique with daily meals in school. Can you imagine that less than £30 keeps a child eating daily in school for ONE year, giving her a meal that is often the only meal he or she will eat that day?
Why Mozambique? When there are a lot of charities closer to home that need much needed funds as well? Because this year, a lot of people will focus closer to home when considering those in need. And it is the depressing reality that those numbers are increasing, not decreasing. But I also didn't want to forget others who are also struggling. Especially at a time when its likely that they lose much needed funds from overseas charities purely because those same charities are focusing closer to home. AND because those same charities are raising less because of the cost of living crisis.
So why A Little Gesture? Because one day a few months ago I got an email from a female colleague at work highlighting that it was her birthday - and a milestone to boot - but that all she wanted for her birthday was for any present to instead be a donation to this charity. I haven't worked with them myself. But when someone I know and respect thinks solely of this charity on their birthday, I know they do good work that we need to support.
So with that, and one week till race day, thank you for anything you can donate.
Thank you!
