Story
Through this challenge I am supporting the Sheffield Family Holiday Fund (SFHF), a small local charity that raises money to send families on holidays and short breaks. The families that benefit are all local to Sheffield and are often struggling with some of the most difficult challenges that life can bring including illness, bereavement, disability, mental health and abuse.
We know that there are thousands of children in Sheffield living in poverty and who have never had a holiday and the money raised by the SFHF works with local agencies and organisations to identify these families and arrange day trips or short break around the UK. All of the breaks are administered by the nationally run Family Holiday Association which means that 100% of all donations go directly to Sheffield families.
We all know how good it feels to get away from everyday life and the benefits to the families the SFHF support are clear to see. Children return happier and this has a resulting effect on their attendance and attainment at school. Families bond and parents often state a renewed confidence in themselves and how they are able to cope with everyday challenges.
As a bit of a novice runner and someone that isn’t used to committing to regular exercise (!) running 100km in May is going to be a bit of a challenge for me! I’d appreciate any support that you can give, and spreading the word about the SFHF.
Thank you! :)
