Story

Alison died on March 24 having lost consciousness following heart failure 8 days previously.

Mum’s death has been a huge shock to the many family and friends who had spent time with her recently or were looking forward to getting together soon.

We have much to be grateful for: Alison had lived a full life and was loved and appreciated by many. She had started the year in style with her annual winter pilgrimage to Madeira and was looking forward to singing again this Spring with East Bridge Chorale, playing in her recorder ensemble and continuing her weekly yoga,  aqua-aerobics  and (virtual) mindfulness groups. Many have been surprised to learn that Alison was 84, active as she was and regularly to be seen out and about with (or chasing 😂) her beloved dog Benji.

Mum was born and lived in west London before studying Medicine at Bristol University and moving across the world to Hong Kong where she met and married Mike and had 3 daughters.

Returning to the UK, she worked as a GP in the student health service in Leicester before retiring to the Peak District. For many years she was a full time carer to Mike and eventually they moved to Canterbury to have the support of Bec and her family closer to hand.

Mike died in 2020 but in the previous years Mum received a lot of support and weekly respite from the team at the Collins Dementia Day Care Unit at AgeUk Canterbury, which is why we have chosen to support this project in her memory.
