The University of Essex Rowing is a vibrant and increasingly international club, offering a wide variety of people a means to stay fit and healthy whilst helping them develop team-building, leadership and above all else communicative skills. We pride ourselves on being an unconventional club where real sporting effort and good fun go hand in hand, at training sessions, at club socials and at races.

The club however, like many rowing clubs across the UK, is significantly underfunded and relies on the support of the University of Essex Student Union and of our sponsor, Parker Wilson, to help keep it running. While funding from the SU and Parker Wilson help us enormously with keeping the club running, we must continue to fundraise in order to continue growing.   

Last year, the club raised over £1,000 in a sponsored 24 hour row-a-thon for the Samaritans and for the Club itself. The money raised was divided in half and while the money raised for the Samaritans helped them to continue to provide essential mental health services, the funds for the UERC went to helping us continuing to advance our underdeveloped club infrastructure. 

This year the club hopes to build upon this great effort and raise more than we did in 2014 and in 2013 when carried out a joint 24 hour Row-a-thon with the Parachute Regiment, raising over £2,500 for a variety of charities.

Money raised this year will be split in half with one half going to Help for Heroes. This well-established charity, does immeasurable good for serving and veteran soldiers, providing emotional, social and employment support for members of the British Armed Forces. The remainder of the proceedings will go to the University of Essex Student Union to then go on to UERC.
