Climbing Mont Ventoux, 3 times in 1 day for Prostate Cancer
Before I persuade you to part with some of your money, I need to state that I must have been mad to say yes to this challenge (too much wine I think), and certainly have a loose screw. Apparently there is a special group of mad cyclists that you will be inducted into once this challenge is done - although you get a nice certificate. Enough about how crazy it is, let me share with you what it is all about.
I will once again be doing this challenge with my good friend Mac, and this time we will be joined by our lovely supportive wives. They will not be cycling of course !! We will be travelling to the South of France to a world famous mountain called Mont Ventoux. One that usually appears on the Tour de France.
The challenge is to cycle the 3 different routes up the 2000m high mountain in one day. The distance is not the issue, it is the mental and emotional strength to get to the bottom and then want to get up and do it again. Along the way we have to stop at a number of coffee shops and taverns to collect stamps to prove that we have done it.
This time I will be raising funds for Cancer Research UK in the fight against Prostate Cancer. Friends and family have recently been diagnosed, and ultimately have died with this terrible thing and I wanted to do my bit to help make sure that a cure, better treatments and support care continues. Being at the tender age of 47 (still having loads of fun), I hope to keep it that way and something that misses me in time.
What is Prostate Cancer ?
There are around 11,700 prostate cancer deaths in the UK every year, that's 32 every day (2015-2017). In males in the UK, prostate cancer is the 2nd most common cause of cancer death, with around 2,000 deaths in 2017. Prostate cancer accounts for 14% of all cancer deaths in males in the UK (2017).
Any support that you can give will always be greatly appreciated
by me, although more importantly by those that will benefit from your kind generosity.
