Brighton Marathon 2021 · 12 September 2021 ·
In 2016 I was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation, also known as AiFib, a disconcerting condition where your heart rate, with no prior warning, can become erratic and irregular. It can be scary, like having a huge butterfly flapping around inside your chest... With medication clearly not working, I agreed to participate in the clinical trial program run by my cardiologist at Hammersmith Hospital and in November 2017 I underwent an ablation procedure. Unfortunately it wasn't successful and in February 2019 I had another procedure along with the current standard ablation procedure - a 4 hour double whammy!
I'm pleased to say that this was a complete success and I was able to slowly get back to running, cycling, swimming and pursuing my general fitness goals. So what better way to celebrate a medication free 63rd birthday in April 2021 than to run the Brighton marathon, now deferred to September 12, to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation?
The BHF was key to my ongoing treatment program but they continue to need funds for research development and education. The BHF has helped to more than halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people still lose their lives.
The BHF works tirelessly to educate patients and their families, create new treatments and to discover new cures but can only continue to do so with ongoing financial support.
Please help me to help the BHF continue with their amazing work by giving whatever you can afford, little or large - it all helps!!
I thank you sincerely.
