Story
Thank you for taking the time to read my page. I am going to be running the London Marathon for Granny and Grandad. Granny is sadly now in a care home because of dementia, incapable of recognising her family. Sadly Grandad passed away in July 2022 and due to Grannys Dimentia they were not together in his last year, nor could Granny attend her husbands funeral. Hopefully the money raised will be invested into research into how to prevent this heart breaking disease.
Sadly Alzheimer’s is a disease we are all very aware of and either have a member of family that’s been effected by it or know someone who has. Due to Alzheimer’s becoming so common many of us may think that it’s a natural part of ageing however this is not the case. Alzheimer’s is a disease of the brain that doesn’t just involve forgetting things, it can include struggles to hold conversation , thinking things through and changes in behaviour. All these I am sure is very scary to experience and is definitely very sad to see someone else go through.
The Alzheimer’s society is an amazing charity that helps support people with dementia and family’s affected but it. They do this by:
— Making welfare calls
— Providing a live support line
— Helping people combat loneliness
— Have played a large part in pushing the government to respond to the growing crisis in care homes
— Giving support and treatments to those living with Dementia to improve their day to day lives
— investing in research
Every three minutes, someone develops dementia. We can beat it, but we cant do it alone.Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading dementia charity. Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted in their community.Every penny you donate is making sure we can be there for people affected by dementia.
