We are all familiar with harsh stories about heart health in Scotland.
The fact is, on average, 47 people a day die from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Mothers, fathers, grandparents, sons, daughters, from Aberdeen to Arbroath, from Kirkcaldy to Kilbride. There will be another 47 tomorrow.
We know that in Scotland the death rate from coronary heart disease is almost 50% higher than for the South East of England. We dont think this is fair.
Whilst these facts are daunting, we are full of hope. There is a great deal for Scottish hearts to celebrate. Scotlands universities and hospitals are leading the way with ground-breaking research leading to new discoveries and life-changing treatments. Its gathering pace, and its all working to benefit patients as soon as possible and keep those we love around for longer.
