Story
Muscular Dystrophy is a collection of over 60 rare and very rare progressive muscle-wasting conditions.
These conditions affect just over one in every 1,000 people and my (little) brother is one of these people. He was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) at around 5 years old. The condition affects the peripheral nerves which connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. Thankfully CMT is not life limiting/threatening but the condition is degenerative and progressive.
There is currently no treatment available to treat the underlying causes or most symptoms, which is a travesty, so your donations are for a very worthy cause.
My brother, Alistair, lives life to the full along with his gorgeous wife Gillian and my most awesome nephew, Jack. Alistair takes everything in his stride and refuses to let his condition get in the way. I know he finds things hard occasionally but manages to pick himself up, put a smile on his face and get back on the horse. There are times when I genuinely wonder how he does it. My Mum & Dad have also been on a journey from pre-diagnosis until now and I know Alistair is eternally grateful for their support.
Its not much at all, but feels like the very least I can do to drag myself from Newcastle to sunny South Shields (better known as the Great North Run) to raise some cash for MDUK- please give what you can, thanks!
