The YMCA has changed the lives of its members including myself. More than 120,000 individuals have made the Y an important part of improving their lives, through childcare, fitness, social programs, teen development, and family services that help us learn, grow, and thrive.

My family and I started visiting the Y when I was younger. I learned to swim and how to stay active and healthy here. I remember being so excited to go to swim lessons because my instructor told us to cup our hands as if we were scooping ice cream. If I am being honest, I was even more excited because at the end of our lessons we were allowed to jump off the big diving board.

I started working at the Y my junior year of high school as a summer camp counselor. Five years later, I am still working for the Y.  I do a little bit of everything. I work at the front desk, in childcare, and drive the bus for the before and after school kids. Working for the Y has been an amazing experience.  I have seen how many families and individuals have been impacted because of them. 

The Y is much more than just a gym, it is a non-profit organization that offers many different programs such as sports, childcare, and group fitness classes. In 2020, the Y was able to help 422 families/individuals by providing them with assistance to its many programs which equaled to $110,000. Our goal this year is to provide 550 opportunities for people of all ages to thrive and belong in an intergenerational community environment.

I want to ask my family and friends to help me raise money that can help individuals and families in the El Mirage community that cannot always afford this awesome and rewarding experience. Donations are tax-deductible and can be in any amount.
