Story
I have decided to cycle 26 miles for the Evelina Childrens Hospital because ECH is a very special charity to my family and I and will always have our on going support.
In 2009 I had a terrible accident. I fell into a swamped pond while at a friends house. My mum had the horrendous ordeal of finding me face down in the pond with my crocs floating on the surface of the water. My mum pulled me out but I wasn't breathing and I was blue in colour. My mum had the horrific ordeal of having to resuscitate me to get me breathing again until the ambulance arrived.
On arrival at the ECH, I was sedated and my mum and dad were taken into a room by one of the doctors who prepared my parents for the worst, that I might not regain consciousness and if I did, I could be severely disabled or handicapped.
The staff at the ECH were absolutely fantastic. Apparently they never left my side and monitored me around the clock.
Thankfully, I was very, very lucky. I made a full recovery walking out of hospital several days later without any side effects, physical or mental scars. This was all thanks to the excellent care I received.
In a weeks time I will be turning 13. I am so grateful to be able to be celebrating this milestone with my family even if it is in lockdown.
After my accident we later found out that I had been under water for 6 minutes, I was one of the lucky ones, not all children are so lucky.
Please support me, please donate and please keep staying home, staying safe and staying well.
Thank you.
Jack
