The Oxford Moonlight Stroll 2013 · 13 July 2013 ·

We provide specialist care for the people of Oxfordshire who are at the end of their lives and support their families, friends and carers. We strive to provide the best possible quality of life for our patients and to make every precious moment count.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I will be walking 9 miles with Melanie Cooper (nee Peck) and Hannah Kirby to raise money for Sobell House, Oxford.  This walk is in memory of Steve Peck and Bridget Opie.

Steve is my best friends Dad who lost his battle with cancer in October 2012 (just 2 week prior to Mel being my Maid of Honour).  Steve spent his last couple of weeks being cared for in Sobell House.  They were incredible with Steve and his family and friends - offered support and advice throughout this time.  In order for Sobell House to run they partly rely on charity and volunteers.  He will always be remembered with very fond memories.

Bridget Opie was my first ever primary school teacher at Wolvercote first school.  We got back in touch via Facebook and was going to arrange to meet up for tea once she had returned from her travels.  Unfortunately I never got the opportunity to do this as she was taken ill with breast cancer and also lost her battle in Sobell House.  It would have been amazing to meet up and share some memories.  I am incredibly lucky to have such brilliant memories of her.

So in memory of Miss Opie and Steve.

So Sobell House was established in 1976 to care for people suffering with life a threatening illness and for their families.  It offers physical, psychological, social and spiritual care and focuses on quality of life, respecting the uniqueness of each person.

Funding

The specialist palliative care service is jointly funded by The Sobell House Hospice Charity and the Oxford Radcliffe NHS Trust.

The cost of running the Hospice is well over £4 million a year, a large part of which comes from the generosity and support of local companies and individuals throughout the county.
