Story

I'm so proud to announce that I have partnered up with the Stroke Association as my charity of the year. It also happens to be Stroke Awareness Month, and 8 years since my mum had her stroke, which is one of the main reasons I set up my business.

Here is a picture of us at a wedding whilst mum was standing up for a short period. She is mainly wheelchair-bound but with the help of physios and determination, she is able to walk short distances.

My mum suffered a life-changing hemorrhagic stroke, that turned our world upside down. Only 15% of stroke sufferers get this very rare type of stroke, and very few survive.

Fortunately, my amazing mum is a stroke survivor but has been left with serve long-term disabilities that require her to have care and support every day for life.

When this happened I didn’t even know what a stroke was. It’s a heartbreaking disease, that has left my mum unable to move her arm and can only walk very short distances.
A stroke can be caused by either a blood clot or bleeding in the brain and is a very serious condition where the bloody supply to part of your brain is cut off. It needs to be treated in the hospital as soon as possible.

Key statistics:

🟣 Stroke strikes every five minutes
🟣 100,000 people have strokes each year
🟣 There are 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK

In my mum’s case this she had no prior illnesses to indicate this could happen. It can happen to anyone, any time. But there is so much that can be done in our lifestyles to help us prevent it. Eat better, exercise more, keep calm and stress less. I whole heartily believe that stress is one of the root causes of mum’s stroke, which led me to embark on my wellness journey.

The pandemic has hit stroke research hard and they need your help to save it. Please donate.

Through Amaura London I will be donating and raising awareness throughout the year to help the Stroke Association support stroke survivors to rebuild their lives with Work For Good UK.

Please take some time to read about stroke, as I’m sure many of you have been affected by it.  If you have any ideas on raising awareness and much-needed funding, please do share them with me as I would love to hear your ideas.

With love & light
