Story

The Mongol Rally 2010

The challenge:  to drive from Goodwood in Sussex to Ulaan Baatar in Mongolia.

The rules are, there are no rules!  We will have a farewell party in Goodwood and a welcome party in Mongolia, other than that the (approx) 400 teams will be left to their own devices.

To make things interesting we will be driving in two old ambulances!  One an ex-St John's ambulance and the other (a bit older) bought on e-bay.  To make things even more interesting we will be driving through Turkey, across Iran, up through the 'Stans, into Kazakhstan, Russia, and then into Mongolia.

Why? I hear you say.  Well why the hell not?  But other than satisfying an urge for crazy adventure, this is all in the name of charity.  We will firstly be donating our ambulances to the Mongolians (much needed and appreciated), and will also be trying to raise a whole heap of money for 3 specific charities.  And this is where you come in...

Mercy Corps  (www.mercycorps.org)

Mercy Corps works with families to ensure quality agricultural inputs, a good crop yield and a fair price at local markets. They work with communities to shelter and nurture children through innovative education, health and nutrition programmes. Teaching the next generation and keeping them healthy are essential to tomorrow's strong, vibrant societies.

The Christina Noble Children's Foundation  (www.cncf.org)

CNCF have a variety of projects in Mongolia that change the lives of kids who have often been given a pretty rough hand in life. The funds from the Mongol Rally support the running costs of the incredible Blue Skies Ger Village in Ulaanbaatar.

The Children and Young People's Protection and Development NGO  (www.cyppd.org)

A Mongolian based children's charity fighting to protect the rights of vulnerable children and to support education, training, and development.
