Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Jyoti Bruce. She was and continues to be an inspiration to me for so many reasons. I will be running the Great Eastern Run with and in memory of Jyoti, hoping to raise money for the Lily Foundation. They help fund research into Mitochondrial Disease and other metabolic disorders. Jyoti suffered from a condition that has no cure. Since the age of 8 years, she suffered from seizures, tunnel vision, balance difficulties, motory issues on her left side of her body. The amazing thing I remember about Jyoti is all of this did not matter, she carried on with life as normal. If anything, it made her more determined to achieve her dreams...and she most definitely did that.
iMitochondrial myopathy is a collective term for a group of diseases that particularly affect the muscles, but which may also affect every other part of the body including the brain.
On the 28th March 2012, and after 4 weeks of consistent seizure activity, Jyoti's brain was unable to cope any longer and she sadly lost her battle against Mitochondrial Disease and passed away at the young age of 23, leaving her loving husband, mother, father and older brother.
