It's chocs away for Choctober! Chuck the chocolate this October and help mothers in Africa give birth to their babies safely.

Story

As you most of you may know, I work for the incredible charity Maternity Worldwide, which works in Uganda, Ethiopia and Malawi to reduce women and their babies dying or being injured in childbirth.

This October, they are running the annual 'Choctober' campaign, where people fundraise by giving up chocolate for a month. But I am taking it a bit further (because I can just never help myself) and giving up social media for a month. GASPS ALL AROUND I KNOW GOD FORBID!

Please sponsor me on what might turn out to really challenging or really refreshing. Who knows.

Every day across the world, 800 women die in pregnancy or childbirth, and 62% of these deaths take place in Sub-Saharan Africa, and most of these lives could be saved by relatively simple, inexpensive measures. For example, it costs just £15 to sponsor a safe birth for a mother in Ethiopia, £1 for a course of anti-biotics to prevent infection following birth, and £50 to pay for an emergency caesarean section. I have seen the work Maternity Worldwide do in Malawi when I did my uni placement there, and it is honestly invaluable. Please sponsor me on this potentially relentless month to help save lives in childbirth!
