Story
As a lot of you will already know our daughter Amelia has cerebral palsy and will be having multi-level surgery on the 29th July.
This will involve lengthening her hamstrings and calves, and also re positioning and wiring her heel bones.
Although the NHS provides some support and equipment, such as a wheelchair and frame, it is limited and doesn’t meet all of Amelia’s needs. However In order to help Amelia achieve her dream, she will need access to therapies 2-3 times a week including physiotherapy, osteopathy and hydrotherapy. Some of the equipment she needs will be to help her effectively access certain therapies at home such as physio. A ‘Freewheel off road wheelchair kit’ will enable Amelia to access the beach, woods and other ‘off road’ areas and activities that are currently inaccessible to her. This will help with her mental well being and inclusion in activities with family and her peers. I order to fund this we will need to raise an amazing £28,000
For anyone that has met Amelia, you will know what a very special little girl she is. Although she gets very frustrated by her disability, she is absolutely determined to not let it beat her. She has a dream that one day she will be able to walk unaided, and we, as her parents, want to ensure we give her every opportunity to achieve her dream.
I will be walking 100km through the day and night from Putney bridge to Henley with only short breaks for food. i'm hoping this will take under 24 hours.
I like a challenge so to make it harder, I will be pushing Amelia in her Wheelchair for the first 12.5km. If you lovely people do sponsor me please write an item of clothing when you write a message and i will pick one item to wear on the walk. Ie a top hat, a fairy outfit or a wig etc. I have also started growing a beard which Ben and Amelia will decide what colour to dye it for the occasion, so i should look pretty ridiculous!
