Story
My name is Amelie Anderson. I am 11 years old and live in Richmond, UK.
Next year, I will be celebrating my Bat Mitzvah, which is a Jewish celebration for the coming of age of a young woman. To mark this special occasion, I want to do something to make a positive difference to other children's lives.
So, over the coming year, I will be undertaking a series of fundraising challenges in order to support a charity called Save A Child’s Heart (SACH). SACH is a charity that brings children, with heart problems, from other countries to Israel and gives them an operation that they wouldn't have been able to receive in their home country, to help them live, with a healthy heart. To date, Save A Child's Heart has saved over 5,400 children's lives.
The picture above is of a girl called Abay. Abay is 13 years old and is from Ethiopia. She recently underwent life-saving heart surgery with SACH in Israel, and now looks forward to pursuing her dream of one day becoming a teacher.
My goal is to raise $15,000 (£11,500) to bring another child like Abay to Israel and provide him or her with this incredible life-saving surgery. This covers all medical care, travel to Israel and housing during the child's stay in Israel. This charity is important to me because I love how they save children's lives from all over the world, and I think that is truly amazing!

CHALLENGE #1: 60,000 steps for 60,000 heartbeats
The heart of a healthy 12-year old girl (Bat Mitzvah age) beats approximately 60,000 times every 12 hours.
As my first challenge, I will undertake a sponsored walk of 60,000 steps (42km / 26 miles) along the Thames towpath - over 2 days in October 2020 - from Hampton Court Palace to Tower Bridge.
I will take photos of myself on the walk, and post my progress of steps on my pedometer.
Please support me in this challenge and help me raise my goal of £11,500 ($15,000) to put a child through crucial life-saving heart surgery.

Save A Child's Heart is an international, non-governmental humanitarian organisation, based in Wolfson Medical Centre, Israel. Since 1995, they have carried out over 5,400 life-saving surgeries on children suffering from congenital and rheumatic heart disease from 62 countries and trained 125 doctors and clinicians.
Save A Child's Heart mends hearts regardless of race, religion, gender, nationality or financial status.
Approximately 50% of the children are from the Palestinian Authority and Gaza, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Morocco, more than 40% are from Africa, and the remainder are from Asia, Eastern Europe and the Americas.
