Amin grew up in an orphanage in Malaysia. He came to England in 2004 and fulfilled his life's ambition to train as a nurse. He won an award during his nurse training, and he was admired by his colleagues and loved by his patients. He was unjustly dismissed by his NHS employer in December 2015, and in February 2016 in a state of distress he burned himself to death.
