As some of you know, I have recently been accepted on a volunteering programme called Global Xchange, which is a youth initiative organised by the well-known charity VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) and aims to build active global citizens, committed to working for positive change.

The programme involves taking part in a 6 month exchange. 
Starting from Tuesday 21st March, I will be spending 3 months working in the UK and 3 months working in the Philippines. The team comprises of 9 volunteers from the UK who will each be paired up with volunteers from the Philippines. My partner and I will live with a local family and work on local community projects which could range from environmental conservation and youth work to AIDs and disability awareness schemes. These projects not only aim to make valuable and long lasting contribution to the respective host communities but also develop skills and attitudes of the volunteers themselves, which they can bring home and utilise in their own communities.
