Hi Everyone,

I am a Chemical Engineering student currently midway through an internship with J.Crew Group, Inc. in New York City! My journey is not alone though, five Scottish university students and I are all doing different Internships in the city, ranging from business, sustainability, engineering, marketing, software and networking projects - all of our internships are centred on innovation and creation. We are given real responsibility and completing projects that create real change - not just making coffee for our supervisors!

This experience would not be possible without the support of the Saltire Scholarship Programme. All of these Internships are found and funded by the Saltire Foundation and Entrepreneurial Scotland. Not only do they locate these incredible Intern opportunities but they pay for our flights, accommodation and even give us a weekly stipend to cover food, transport etc. Donations will ensure the next generation of students can embark on the same amazing experience.

So, we would like to give back to say thank you for this incredible opportunity!

As well as this, I personally will be raising money for the MS Society UK - all funds sent to this page will be split between the two charities, which definitely should be a more incentive to donate!

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition that affects your brain and spinal cord. In MS, the coating that protects your nerves (myelin) is damaged. This causes a range of symptoms like blurred vision and problems with how we move to think and feel - a long term condition that has had a huge impact on my family. The MS Society UK are conducting groundbreaking research into finding better treatments and the possibility of finding a cure.

"Our vision is a world free from the effects of MS. And we're getting closer."

So what is the challenge for us? Well, we are going to walk the entire perimeter of Manhattan...

This is known in NYC as 'The Great Saunter'. On a map, this looks quite daunting and we will have to get out our walking trainers because it is a 32-mile walk! Of course, we are going to bring the Saltire flag with us, as we walk through Hell's Kitchen to Harlem, up to the most northerly part of Manhattan, Inwood Forest, all the way back down through the luxury of the upper east side, down Western Manhattan, round the East Village and finally pass the Statue of Liberty herself and end in Battery Park, where we will have completed our challenge!

We are going to walk just over 10 miles each as we are going to complete this in pairs - passing the flag over at each swap over - essentially a big Scottish relay!
