Important Update: We would like to let you know that we have managed to acquire the remaining funds needed through some incredible generosity. We cannot thank each of you enough for all you have done. We now have a date set for Holland towards the end of April. We couldn't have done this without you and thank you for your support. We would be grateful if you could continue your prayers, for his full recovery.
Hi, I'm Amit. Thank you for taking 2 minutes to read this heartfelt story of a mother doing everything to save her child.
This story has been verified by PCF, a Registered Charity. Our decision to keep the child’s name confidential is simply to protect their future.
Last month, when A&E doctors told us that our child would not make it through the night, that we would lose them after their suicide attempt, I was shattered by heartbreak.
At no point could I have imagined that my 15-year-old was so desperate to no longer live their life, that they would carefully plan out multiple suicide attempts, one of which was taking an overdose of 70 iron tablets which would cause serious blood poisoning.
On that day, our prayers were answered, and our beloved child is still with us, but every single day since, we hold our breath whilst trying to keep our wonderful child alive.
My family’s days and nights have become all-consumed in keeping them safe from self-harm and suicide. The fear that I feel deep down in my heart each time I open their bedroom door, tears me apart.
My child was once a happy teenager with a larger-than-life personality, always entertaining others in so many ways, and always left people amazed.
How did it get to this point? Covid has a lot to answer for. In March 2020, our outgoing, fun-loving child virtually barricaded themselves in their room, isolated from friends and from the outside world. Weeks turned into months, and by the start of 2021, our previously happy teen, was undergoing therapy for serious depression and anxiety.
By October of last year, the anxiety had reached such high levels that they could no longer face social interaction and could no longer bear to attend school to complete studies.
Simple things which we previously took for granted, like having a daily meal as a family, playing card games together, family movie nights or visiting friends, became a thing of the past.
Our once loving child, who used to make us smile and laugh with jovial antics, is at risk of no longer being in this world.
Frustratingly, mental health services haven’t been able to provide us with the help needed. Our experience has been devastating, and the damage is causing our family to fall apart.
We are in crisis. After exploiting all treatment avenues, we have discovered a clinic in the Netherlands which we believe will be our lifeline.
The clinic, called ‘Yes We Can’, has finally given us the hope of a future for our young teenager. The 10-week intensive residential stay will provide them with 24/7 specialist care using a structured programme utilising multidisciplinary teams of Psychiatrists, Psychotherapists and Healthcare Psychologists.
The programme costs £60,000 - a huge sum of money for anyone to swallow, hence my plea for your help.
Speed is of the essence. The sooner we can get them enrolled in the program, the greater the chance of them receiving the help they need. If we don’t do this soon, I fear the worst.
I am desperate that my plight will not only raise these funds to help save my child, but also to open hearts and minds to the mental health crisis in teenagers and to mental illness, a subject often deemed taboo.
I, on behalf of all involved including the child & the family, truly thank you with all our hearts for your support.
(We would like to request that if you know the family/child, please do not mention any names in your donation messages - our sincerest gratitude.)
