Great Birmingham Run 2017 · 15 October 2017 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm running the Birmingham Half Marathon in memory of my son and best friend Subhan Khan, who went to heaven on the 15th November last year to be with the angels. Subhan was just seven years old and we miss him so much, not a day goes by when I don't think of him.
Subhan was born with Joubert's Syndrome a rare life limiting condition which meant that he required 24hr care due to his complex medical needs. This is were Acorns Childrens Hospice stepped in and cared for Subhan. They looked after him overnight at our family home and also took him to school to make sure he had a education just like any other child. The care and support my son was given by these nurses was amazing, they looked after him like he was their own child.
They often took him swimming, playgroups and shopping trips, making sure he looked like a million dollars every time they took him out. Despite him being so poorly they made sure he lived his life to the full and we are so grateful to them for the wonderful memories. Acorns continue to support my daughter Zara Khan who unfortunately has the same life limiting illness as her brother Subhan had.
This run is well out my comfort zone, the furthest I have ever run is 10K, however my training has stepped a gear a couple of months ago with lots of evening runs after work and then longer ones over the weekend. Whilst training is tough it is such a fantastic opportunity to raise a lot of money for a great cause.
The money raised will go directly to the Black Country Hospice in Walsall who looked after Subhan so they can purchase equipment for the use of life limited children.
Whether you know how gruelling marathon training is, or indeed know how much my wife puts up with as a consequence, I'll be so grateful for your support.
I would also just like to add that Acorns have helped over 2,470 children since it was established in 1988, an in the last year Acorns supported more than 760 children.
