In August I shall be walking from my home city of Birmingham to Manchester to raise funds for the Naz and Matt Foundation.
I became aware of the Naz and Matt Foundation and their fantastic work through the storyline of Rana and Kate on Coronation Street. Their mission is to never let religion, any religion, come in the way of the unconditional love between parents and their children. They tackle homophobia triggered by religion to help parents accept their children.
As an avid Corrie viewer it was hard not to be struck by Bhavna Limbachia's emotional portrayal of Rana's journey with her sexuality and the impact this had on her and her family. Rana may be a fictional character but for many people this is a real life journey and it was this that prompted me to want to do something to help. My journey from Birmingham to Manchester will be small in comparison to the journey some people take in being accepted for who they really are but It is my hope that I can play a small part in raising awareness and funds to help the Naz and Matt Foundation continue their much needed work and support.
Any donations will be greatly received and please help to continue the conversation.
