Story

Statement for Claire Young, a valued and loved personal trainer here at SO51Fitness :

“In September of last year my life was completely turned upside down with a diagnosis of a 3cm Invasive Lobular Carcinoma on my left breast. With no history of cancer in my family this was a complete shock, but nothing can prepare you for sitting down with a doctor and being told you have breast cancer. I had my first surgery in November to remove the lump and three lymph nodes. Unfortunately a small amount of cancer cells were found in my sentinel node, so further surgery to remove all the remaining lymph nodes from my armpit will now go ahead after a delay of 5 weeks due to me catching Covid.

Throughout this, I have been supported by my family and friends, and of course, my gym buddies at SO51 Fitness. I have had to make some very difficult decisions regarding my treatment and I have turned to the Macmillian Cancer Support group for help and advice as I make these choices for my ongoing treatment. They are a fantastic resource for anybody diagnosed with any sort of cancer, offering emotional support, access to information and financial advice.  They rely on fundraisers to help them also provide funding for doctors and nurses to help you throughout your treatment.

Every year over 375,400 people are diagnosed with cancer, that’s 150 new cases every day in the UK. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and providing it is caught early, it is very treatable. Please support Amy as she raises funds for this worthwhile cause, and I wish her every success with her run”
