Bollock(s) to Male Cancer

Bollock(s) to Male Cancer · 15 January 2018
As some of you know, and many of you may not know, Joseph was diagnosed with testicular cancer on the 2nd June, 5 weeks before his wedding on the 6th July. Following the removal of a testicle, we waited 3 months before follow-up tests revealed that he was going to need further treatment – 9 weeks of chemotherapy. Side effects include nausea and fatigue that kept him house bound for days, but also hair loss. I saw my brother just before the chemo started, then the next time I saw him was just before Christmas – after his chemo finished. The first thing I noticed was the lack of hair on his head; for me it was the most obvious sign that he had been sick.
On the 15th January, Joseph will receive more test results. This will tell us whether his battle is over, or whether he will require more treatment. On the same day, I will shave my head.
Everyone who knows me will know my hair is one way I express myself – blue, purple, pink, red, blonde, brunette, straight, curly, half-shaved – I’ve been nearly every colour in the rainbow, it changes every few months. And once again I am using it to express not just myself, but my brother, and every other person out there who is fighting.
Cancer is something that affects everyone, and has been present a number of times throughout my life. Many people in my family have been diagnosed and suffered from it - some made it out the other end whilst others have lost their lives to cancer. The battle between humankind and cancer is one that is forever ongoing – it affects everyone in one way or another, and I hope that you will donate in support of this cause.
Upon asking my brother, he chose Orchid as the charity to which my donations will go. I wanted him to choose where the money will be donated. I am doing this for everyone whose fight is ongoing, but also because I love my brother, and I couldn’t imagine him not being in my life.
Orchid is a charity that focuses on fighting cancer in men – saving men’s lives against prostate, penile and testicular cancer. It is the number one UK charity working on behalf of anyone affected by male cancers.
What is a little hair against the battle that people are facing anyway?
To donate, you can use this page. It will be open from now, until, and after the 15th. As little or as much as you can manage, it all adds up to make a difference. A contribution to the battle against cancer.
