Why I'm Running

Having the opportunity to be part of the Welsh Pharmaceutical Students Association as a member of Cardiff Pharmacy School has allowed me to fundraise for some great causes for the last two years. This year WPSA has dedicated its fundraising to a great charity, Stroke Association. As well as taking part in other fundraising events throughout the year a group of students from the school including myself have decided to accept the challenge of the Cardiff Half Marathon!

As daunting as the 13 miles seems at the minute, the money that will be raised for this worthy cause, will make it all worthwhile. Stroke is a more common problem than people think and doesn't just effect old people. Its estimated around 150,000 people a year suffer a stroke, that's 1 every 5 minutes! The charity works hard in prevention of stroke, support after stroke, research and lifesaving campaigns to increase understanding.

After hearing first hand a 23 year old survivors experience of stroke, and how things could have been different if people had realised she was suffering a stroke (not assumed it was a migraine) and the help she received from the charity after the incident, really made it hit home that it could happen to any of us!

I've set myself a target to complete the race in 2 hours and I’m hoping after a lot of hard work I can achieve this by race day (6th October).

Thank you very much for everyones support!
