We carry out practical research to improve quality of life after paralysis

Story

As some of you may know, my Uncle suffered an accident in the summer of 2019 which has left him paralysed. He has and is having to learn how to do simple day to day tasks from scratch with the movement he now has.

My Uncle and family have received amazing care and support from both the John Radcliffe and Stoke Mandeville Hospitals.

I have a ballot place for the London Marathon 2020 but have also decided to run various other races both pre and post this challenge.

My goal is to raise as much money as I can for Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research.

Paralysis is a fact of life for the 40,000 people living with spinal cord injury, and it can happen to anyone. For the majority of people, being unable to walk is just another challenge to add to the many other difficulties they face on a daily basis. Pressure ulcers, urinary tract infections and pain are all a daily threat to quality of life, making it hard to 'get on with life'. SMSR is tackling these day to day challenges through research to ensure that individual's with spinal cord injury have the best quality of life possible.

About the charity

Paralysis. Life. Each day, some people wake up having to think about both. That's why we are here. With medical breakthroughs, technological innovation, and social insight - combined with your support, we can do more to help people to get on with life after paralysis.
