Story
Hello! I am (terrifyingly) running the London Marathon this year for the amazing charity Blood Cancer UK. I have been lucky enough to work for Blood Cancer UK since June 2021 and everyday I am inspired by the genuinely life-changing research we fund, and the incredible support we provide to the blood cancer community.
Blood cancer is the 5th most common cancer in the UK, and the 3rd biggest cancer killer. But awareness of blood cancer (which includes leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and others) is comparatively low compared with other cancers. I hope that over the next few months in the lead up to the marathon I can use this platform to raise awareness of blood cancer and encourage everyone to become familiar with the signs of symptoms, which you can read more about here:
https://bloodcancer.org.uk/understanding-blood-cancer/blood-cancer-signs-symptoms/
Every year, 41,000 people are diagnosed with blood cancer. That means that on average, 112 people are diagnosed every single day of the year. So I’m setting myself the challenge of raising a minimum of £10 for every single person who could be diagnosed with blood cancer on the day I run the marathon, 23rd April 2023.
Any support (monetary, moral or otherwise!) will be so gratefully received. Thank you so much.
Amy
