Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Me and my partner Gaz will be doing the 'Welsh 3 peaks challenge' in 24 hours. We will be climbing Pen y fan, followed by Cader Idris and finishing the challenge climbing Snowdon. This means climbing a staggering combined height of 9,397 ft. Climbing mountains is something me and my partner love to do but this challenge exceeds anything we have been capable of achieving before so a lot of training is in order!!!
The reason we are choosing to raise money for Diabetes UK is because diabetes has impacted on the life of my family for the past 17 years. My brother Scott was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as an 11 year old child and I saw first hand how scary and serious living with this condition can be.
I remember when I was 8 years old and I saw Scott having his first hypoglycaemic attack, in which he was fitting. It was scary enough for me to see but I remember Scott thinking the paramedics were green aliens so I can only imagine how scary it was for him.
Scott is now 28 and already has problems with his eyes, kidneys and nerve damage due to living with this condition. Who knows how severe the damage will be in decades to come but by raising money into diabetes research by time these decades arrive there may be amazing treatment that will help my brother lead a healthy life.
Every 2 minutes someone learns they have diabetes.
Each day 65 people with diabetes will die early.
Every week thousands more suffer heart attacks, heart failure, strokes, kidney disease and amputations.
Please, please, please help by donating to this amazing charity which will ensure that funding for research increases and that diabetes care dramatically improves. So my brother can live in a world where diabetes can do no harm.
Thank you,
Love Amy x x x
