The Wales Air Ambulance Charity provides advanced life-saving emergency care for everyone in Wales, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We are a ‘mobile emergency department’ that relies entirely on donations to keep our helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.

Story

We are the Rockingham Runners! Last year we raised over £3k for charity and this year we are looking to do the same if not better. We are raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) a suicide prevention charity & Wales Air Ambulance Service Ben's story: I want to raise money for CALM in memory of many friends I've lost in the last 15 years to suicide and to maybe help someone else out a little who will be struggling with the same things that my friends were. The most recent friends I lost was Tim. He took his on life on the 29th of December in 2021. He couldn't cope anymore with the 15 year fight he had had with depression and saw suicide as the only way out for him. Despite his illness he completed a degree as a mature student in English Literature and carried on playing music in a couple of local bands. It's music where I have all my best memories with Tim. Either with our band touring the country, sharing songs with each other or travelling around Asia; always with music. Tim was darkly funny and the most intelligent, interesting person I've ever had the pleasure to meet. A brilliant song writer, loved to read, play classical music on the piano and always had a roll up on the go. These are just a few reasons why I want to raise money for CALM so other groups of friends don't lose the best ones. I miss him and love him always . Amber's story: The Wales Air Ambulance is an extraordinary charity that saves countless lives including my grandads. My grandad was the most athletic person I’d ever met. He’d never be sat still. Whether it was running 10k’s and marathon jogs, cycling up to 500 miles a week or doing the coast to coast with my mum. I always admired it although it was never something I had the motivation to do myself. Sadly it came to an end in 2016 when he was hit by a tractor on one of his rides and became tetraplegic. Without the service of the Wales air ambulance, me and my family wouldn’t have gotten an extra 4 years with him. Thanks to them we were able to see him overcome the challenges of his disability and constantly finding ways to include exercise despite the circumstances. This is something I’ll always be grateful for. This is why I’d like to give back to this charity, to thank them for the work they do and for giving me and so many others that extra time with our loved ones. I know that my grandad wouldn’t quite believe that i’m running a half marathon. Hopefully I can make him proud.
