Story
On 4th March 2014, I lost my dad to bone marrow cancer. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him—his strength, his determination, and the love he gave to our family.
When my dad was diagnosed, it wasn’t a complete shock… we knew something wasn’t right and in a way, having answers brought a sense of clarity. It meant we could face it together as a family and understand what we were up against.
Through that journey, the support from Macmillan and the NHS became part of our lives and in our every day. They helped guide us through the unknown, offering reassurance, honesty, and care when my dad needed it most. Because of that support, and the treatments available at the time, the extra years we had with my dad became even more meaningful—time we truly cherished and made the most of together.
Sport was my dad’s life. As an ice skating coach, the ice was where he truly belonged—but beyond that, he lived and breathed being active. Through sport, he showed incredible passion, strength, and a love for life. Even in his toughest days, when the pain was at its worst, he kept going. Staying active and continuing to work gave him purpose and helped him carry on far longer than anyone expected.
The moments we shared through sport—the challenges, the discipline, the drive to push harder and be better—are what shaped me into who I am today. He taught me to never give up, no matter how hard things get.
This September, I’ll be cycling 54 miles from London to Brighton in his memory. While this ride will be a challenge, it is nothing compared to what he went through. I’ve got all the gear and no idea (thanks to my better half being in the cycling world!), but he’ll be supporting me every step—or pedal—of the way to make sure I reach the finish line.
It’s also something I want to do for my kids, who already share that same love for being on their bikes. I want to show them that with determination and heart, anything is possible.
I’m raising money for Macmillan so they can continue supporting families like ours, providing care, compassion, and strength during the most difficult times.
If you’re able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to me. And if not, sharing this page would be just as appreciated.
Thank you for your support, and for helping me keep my dad’s memory alive.
❤️
