Do Your Own Memory Walk 2021 · 1 September 2021 to 30 September 2021 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

My turn:
I have worked in care for 13 years, I have seen the effects with loved ones, how heart breaking, and changeable life must become to care and support for someone living with dementia. I have first-hand experience in seeing someone change into someone who doesn’t remember who you are, doesn’t remember the little things or doesn’t understand why you are in their lives. It’s hard, emotionally, and physically to care and support for someone who struggles with those feelings and that change. Its hard to see the change in someone. BUT I am passionate that life doesn’t have to end with a diagnosis of dementia. People can still live amazing lives with dementia, full of happiness and laughs. There are always going to be darker days, but it is making the light shine through more.

Just because someone doesn’t remember who you are doesn’t mean they don’t remember how you make them feel.

I am going to attempt the 33km walk – I think this makes the most sense to me. Walking for all the people I have cared for, loved, and supported throughout the years. To try and raise some money – even just a little – to give something back to a charity that invests its efforts into finding ways for someone to carry on and to be able to live a life that still gives them happiness.

I am proud to be supporting this charity, and I am proud of my team for walking alongside me.
Together we can make a small difference. Together we can show our support and passion.
