Spinal Injuries Association - Grade - One - A - Thon · 27 February 2011 ·

Every 2 hours, someone in the UK sustains a spinal cord injury. Their world – and that of their family – is turned upside-down. SIA aim to reach everyone affected by spinal cord injury, to connect them to all the help and support they need to life a fulfilled life.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I along with 144 others, are aiming to make as much money for the Spinal Injuries Association as we can by learning a completely alien musical instrument and taking our Grade One in under 8 weeks on the strength of just one lesson. I have now had my one and only lesson on the euphonium and so far, things are not looking good! However, I promise to practice as often as I possibly can to try and improve and maybe make a sound that you wouldn't mind listening to. Grade One exams will be taken during the day on the 27th February followed by a concert in the evening with all 145 of us playing which you are welcome to attend. Earplugs are probably more a necessity than optional but it should be an evening you'll never, ever forget ;-) Tickets can be bought through the Spinal Injuries website.

I will aim to update this page with a video of my progress at some point. Having a laugh at my expense ought to be worth a donation in itself!

Thank you for any donation however large or small, it will help SIA to turn someone's life around just as they did for Guy who is an inspiration to us all.

Wish me luck

Andrea xx

A huge great thank you to all who sponsored me to do this crazy challenge. It is in no small part down to you and your generous donations that kept me practicing and means that after just eight short weeks I am now officially a Grade 1 Euphonium player!! I passed with Distinction!

My thanks also go out to Elaine who leant me a rather better instrument than I was originally given - I wouldn't have even scraped a pass with that other one - it will be a sad day when I have to return it to you, we had become friends. Also to Katy who showed great fortitude in coming to listen to the concert at the Corn Exchange last night WITHOUT ear plugs. She is one brave lady!

I have to apologise for the lack of video update on my Just Giving page but it would have put you off your tea.

Your money is now off to be used for an amazing cause - to get help to all those who are newly spinally injured and need support and encouragement to keep going on with life.

Thank you!

With love

Andrea
