Running The London Marathon 2020

London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having previously lost one auntie to bowel cancer and another to breast cancer and also having treatment to prevent cervical cancer myself, I would like to run on behalf of the charity for the mum of a close friend of mine. Thankfully she has won her battle against bowel cancer after receiving amazing treatment and support from the doctors and nurses at the RVI Hospital in Newcastle, the QE Hospital in Gateshead and all the support provided at home by the Macmillan nurses, all of whom she would not have coped or got through the treatment without them. From her first bowel test to being admitted into hospital within weeks of the results she said that their dedication to their job and fighting cancer was astounding. Although the battle against bowel cancer has been conquered she has recently just gone through a further major operation to remove a lung which had a cancer risk. She is such an amazing, positive lady who has never thought this would get the better of her and I would like to run for the charity not in memory of............. but to say a big thank you to all the amazing and wonderfully supportive and dedicated professionals we have researching the cancer and performing miracles to help save many thousands of lives now.
On my charity application I also stated that having just turned 50 and to be able to run and complete the London Marathon in my milestone year was on my bucket list but to be able to run it for a special lady and a charity that is in aid of something that is very close to me would be more special.
The challenge is on as after thinking there was no way I was going to get a place, I received an email on Wednesday 4th December advising the charity had a runner whom unfortunately had go give up their place and would I like to run for the charity. I was absolutely elated but then the realisation of only having 20 weeks to get fit and it was nearly Christmas sunk in !!!!!!!! Christmas being the time I eat even more chocolate than I usually do as I am a chocoholic and put on even more weight at this time of year. I haven’t trained or ran since the GNR 2018 but I accepted this opportunity with a big smile and I can do it attitude.
I have arthritis in one of my knees and also have asthma therefore training is not the easiest but like my preparation for the Birmingham Marathon I am prepared to push myself to my limits, regular early morning / late evening runs and personal training sessions to make sure I am in great shape to complete the London Marathon 2020. Going into the New Year I will be attending a 6 week personal training sessions to get the fitness levels back up and to gradually build on my running fitness increasing my distances by at least one mile per week.
I will and can do this ❤
Every donation helps no matter how small . Thank you for supporting not only me but my wonderful friend and many others who fight to beat this disease every day.
