A bit about Amber…
Amber is a charity housing and supporting young people grappling with complex challenges. At our centre in Devon, we offer a route out of chaos and self-destruction and support young people to move forward positively to a job, training or university and most importantly a safe, secure place to call home. To give you an idea about how our work makes a difference I would like to tell you about Charlie who moved on from Amber earlier this year…
Charlie’s Story
Charlie became homeless due to conflict with her family. She struggled massively in lockdown and she self-harmed on a number of occasions. Once homeless Charlie stayed at a few friends but also ended up sleeping rough in a field near her family home for a few weeks. The local council referred Charlie to Amber and she found the whole process very straightforward and easy.
This is what Charlie said when she moved on
“The staff have been just amazingly supportive. It was great being surrounded by people who believed in me and told me I could achieve things with my life. I’ve been able to make some great friends and I really appreciated how beautiful and peaceful it is here. I am really pleased I came to Amber, without it I’d still be homeless, unemployable and in a bad place with my mental health.”
With the help of our housing fund Charlie was able to move on to her own flat. She also secured a job as a care assistant. On top of all this she has formed a goal- to train to become a nurse practitioner.
Your support means so much to young people like Charlie and will enable Amber to help many more to turn their lives around and move on to bright independent futures.
