The Chesney Trust believes that a quality education is a girl's human right. We know that female education benefits young women, their families, and their country. Educated women know more about health and nutrition, marry later, have fewer, healthier children, and earn higher incomes.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Chesney Trust was set up to support a girls school in northern Malawi called the Edinburgh Girls School. The school was established just 2 years ago and has about 60 girls aged between 12 and 17.

Malawi is a very poor African country and girls tend to not get a very good education, many leaving after primary education. Janet Chesney is a retired Scottish teacher who decided to do something to help this situation, establishing a school literally from nothing in the African bush.

My son Marcus is currently working as a voluntary teacher in the school. In May I went out to Malawi to see him and visited the school and witness the good work they are doing. A year's education costs about £70 per girl. There are plans to expand the school starting by building a primary school on the same site.
