Story

One of my young twin boys, Isaac, has recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). After a challenging journey we are grateful to finally have a diagnosis to put the support and care in place which Isaac needs to understand and flourish. The diagnosis came as  a relief yet also with an element of fear of what the future may hold for Isaac in a world that can often be an unforgiving environment for those with different sensory and communication needs. However, every difficult moment we have faced over the last 3 years has been overshadowed by the way he has continually inspired us by his determination and happiness. His twin brother Jacob has also been his best and biggest supporter every step of the journey.

As a parent of a recently diagnosed child I feel a responsibility to raise awareness and acceptance within society of ASD. It is a hope that when Isaac grows up stigmas are removed and the world is kinder and more accepting place to neurodiverse individuals.

Autism Acceptance Week starts on 28 March and it is also the 60th year of the National Autistic Society. It feels a great opportunity to give something back.

Therefore to mark this occasion, from 28 March, I will be running 6km a day, everyday, for 60 days come rain or shine.

All monies raised will be go towards a brilliant local organisation called Autism Together who are affiliated with the National Autistic Society. Autism Together have already helped provide specialist support, care and advice for Isaac at an incredibly important time to us as family.

Any kind donation which you could make will help make a huge difference to the often challenging lives of individuals living with Autism Spectrum Disorder
