Headway Somerset is a unique organisation helping people to live as independent a life as possible after brain injury, providing specialist support and therapy at its 3 Brain Injury Outreach Units. It provides essential respite care for family members who may end up being full-time unpaid carers.

Story

In February 2020, our Mum had a stroke. A catastrophic haemorrhage on the left side of her brain, leaving her with no feeling on the right side of the body. Being diagnosed with Dystonia, a rare and often crippling condition, caused her to have no control over her lower leg. A lover of walking, the outdoors and nature; this has left her in agony. The stroke has also caused her to be medically retired from a job that she not only loved, but was respected and admired in. Her confidence and strength has been sapped by something that can happen to absolutely anyone

18 months later, her recovery has slowed and has left her having to reimagine her life, and us ours. Our mum is the strongest woman we know, and still has a long road ahead.

Headway Somerset helped to provide vital information that paved the way for progress for us. Personally I recommend them to anyone that has had, or knows who has had any sort of head injury.

Every year, around a million people attend A&E for head injuries. Over 100,000 of them being strokes causing 38,000 deaths, making it on of the leading causes for death and disability in the UK. The Headway Somerset Charity supports people who have suffered from all kinds of acquired brain injury and their families.

My brother and I, along with some close friends, have decided to team up and tackle the 3 Peak Challenge in 24 hours This is to support and raise money for Headway Somerset as well as Brain Tumour Research (both incredible charities) to help with those who are close to our hearts and other families experiencing the same difficulties we are.

We all hope that you can help and support us by donating and giving whatever you can. Every penny will go to a fantastic charity.
