This April will see me turn 40 years old and like many people approaching this milestone I took to drink. Along with a friend of the same age we agreed, under the influence a little, to try and get places for the London marathon and run it together.  The next few months were spent trying to think of ways to get out of it.  Fortunately places were secured and training started and so came the time to make, what in the end was a very easy, decision of which charity to support and run for.

Unfortunately in January 2017, some good friends of mine following a few weeks of their 4 year old son feeling generally poorly, irritable and not sleeping had a visit to the doctor that no parents would ever want. The child underwent some tests when the results came back Leukemia was suspected.

The family were sent directly to the Bristol Children’s Hospital where the young boy remained for a number of months.  What has followed for them has been a year of the most unimaginable highs and lows as they care for their poorly little boy. He has fought hard against the cancer and we all  have the highest hopes that he will make a full recovery.

What has been clear through all of the pain and struggle they have all gone through is the amazing work that all of the staff do at the Children’s hospital – not only for the children but for the parents and wider family.
