Story

Running first started as a New Years resolution/fitness goal with my girlfriend Emma but has recently taken a personal turn since losing my Grandad.

We are now aiming to raise as much money as possible in support of Rennie Grove Hospice, who helped my Grandad in the last stages of his life. My Grandad struggled with cancer for over 11 years and without the help and support of the people at Rennie Grove, he would have found everyday tasks insurmountable.

The nurses at Rennie Grove regularly visited my Grandad at his home; they not only provided crucial treatment and aid everyday, but also spent time with him just talking. My Grandad and Granny found friends in the nurses that would visit and when the news broke that he was in hospital, the nurses called every week for updates on his condition, wishing him to get better soon.

He loved to watching us running around playing when we were children and made sure every moment was captured on camera. As we grew up, he was able to watch his grandchildren become the men and women they are today, always encouraging us and helping us along the way. It filled him with so much pride to see our successes.

My Grandad taught us the importance of having a loving and supporting family and we now treasure the memories from the times we spent together. He leaves behind; his devoted wife of 62 years, a son and daughter, six grandchildren, his younger sister and brother in-law and his niece and nephew.

We all have so many special memories, the best involve Christmas and his love of good food. Even a basic ham sandwich made by him had a special twist and they were the best ham sandwiches ever.

When Emma and I signed up for the Herts 10K, we hadn't planned to be running for my Grandad and Rennie Grove. We hope this small challenge will give others the support and help they require - help that my Grandad was so grateful to receive. It is with a heavy heart that we didn't have the chance to tell him of this challenge, although we are sure he will be with us in spirit on the day spurring us on.

It would mean so much if you could show your support and donate whatever you can to this wonderful charity.

Thank you, Andrew & Emma.
