Woodbury Park Golf Club - Captains Charity of the Year 2019 · 2 June 2019

We believe no one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We listen, give support and advice, and fight for those who need our help. Our services promote positive mental health and wellbeing and support local people in the first step towards recovery. Thank you for supporting Devon Mind!

Story

I suffer, I have an illness that is a killer, I want to help others by being open about my issues, to allow people to understand a little more.

Everybody's story is personal and individual to them, we scratch the service of this stigmatised illness. There is a stigma, let's be honest, we say there isn't but there is, society will never truly accept people like me who are different.

I have seen it first hand, people regarded as friends are no longer friends, people who said they would be there are no longer. I am one of the very lucky ones who has an amazingly supportive family and a network of true and close friends who help me every single day.

This year as Captain of Woodbury Park Golf Club, I am looking to raise awareness and some urgently needed funds for Devon Mind who have explained below far better than I can do:-

"1 in 4 people experience mental health difficulties at some point in their lives. Whether that be depression, anxiety, stress, self-harm, personality disorder, bereavement or any other negative mental health experience, Devon Mind is here to support anyone who needs help.We cannot do what we do without the generosity of fundraisers and their donors. The harsh reality is that charities are doing more and more on less funding because of cuts to the health services. Thank you from all at Devon Mind".

Please help me, please donate, please appreciate that people don't suffer with poor mental health through choice, we are no different to "normal people", we just need to raise this awareness.
