Cycle GB 2016 · 21 September 2016 to 29 September 2016 ·

We help provide relief of hardship and distress caused by sickness, infirmity, disability or any medical condition, by providing financial assistance to the members or former members of the Benenden Healthcare Society Limited, their Nominees and, if the Trustees think fit, to other persons in need.

Story

I'm cycling 300 miles in three days with a group of colleagues in aid of the Benenden Charitable Trust and SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health) - such great causes. This is stage 1 of a 600 mile charity bike ride.  Any support you can give would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

STAGE 1:
Setting off from SAMH’s home in Glasgow, cyclists will ride over 3 days via Longtown (Carlisle) and Durham, finishing at Benenden Charitable Trust’s offices in York.

STAGE 2:
Heading onwards from York, cyclists will ride for 4 days via Lincoln, Peterborough and Cheshunt, finishing at Benenden Hospital in Kent.

Cycle GB 2016 seeks to increase awareness of mental health and raise £50,000 which will be divided equally between the two charities to support their work. The event has attracted support from Virgin Trains East Coast and Marriott Hotels as well as corporate sponsors who have purchased space on the team’s cycle jersey and shorts.

Benenden Charitable Trust helps people in financial need as a result of sickness, infirmity, disability and any other medical condition. In its first ten years, the charity granted over £650,000 to individuals in need, providing breathing space grants and helping to pay for life changing surgery and specialist equipment.

Established in 1923, SAMH currently operates over 60 services in communities across Scotland. These services, together with our national programme work in See Me, respectme, suicide prevention, sport and physical activity; inform our policy work to influence positive social change. With direct support to over 4,000 people annually and a supporter base of over 10,000 people, we aim to represent the voice of people most affected by mental health issues.
