We provide much needed support for families to help people affected by a brain tumour

Story

Thankyou for visiting this page.

Clare, Claire and Andrew have been training for months now to run the Bristol 10Km in aid of Brain Tumour Support, St Augustine's Parish Project 2018.

Brain Tumour Support, a Bristol charity was founded by local lady, Tina Mitchell Skinner.

Tina set up the charity in memory of her husband, Paul Mitchell when he sadly died of a high grade brain tumour in 2003. Tina was formerly in training and development for a leading building society in the UK and her love and passion for people has helped her to lead and shape the charity into what it is today.

Brain Tumour Support is dedicated to providing support for patients, families and carers so that no-one feels alone facing the effects of a brain tumour diagnosis. The charity provides individualised and specialist information, guidance and emotional support, at any point from diagnosis and for as long as it is needed.

This charity is very close to many people’s hearts in the St Augustine’s community as the diagnosis of a Brain Tumour has affected many people and their families in the St Augustine’s community over the past 12 years including former and past pupils and parents.

Clare’s brother (Chris Gangemi) died of a brain tumour in January 2007, being diagnosed only 5 weeks before. He was 35 years old - tall, strong, handsome, full of life, with a great sense of humour. He was married to Anne, and they had 2 children Ruby (now 14 years old) and Jack (now 12 years old).

Another local family who have suffered loss due to a brain tumour is the Cravo family.

Candido Cravo died of a brain tumour at the age of 58 on 31 May last year. He left his wife Saroj, a nurse working at Southmead hospital, and a young daughter, Eliana who attends St Augustine's Primary School, Downend. He died only 15 months after diagnosis when Eliana was just 8 years old. I am told he was a warm, outgoing, smiley man.

Then there is the Steeds family.

Jeff Steeds died on 4th April 2017, 4 months after diagnosis at the age of 57. He was a loving father to David and Andrew who are now in their 20’s and attended St Augustine’s Primary school when they were younger. Jeff and his wife Liz were both very involved in the St Augustine’s community, Liz being on the board of Governors while Jeff was at home with the boys. Brain Tumour Support provided help in the bereavement process with an excellent councillor which helped Liz’s personal recovery. She has asked that you give generously.

I never met Jeff but have been told he lived life to the full, had a great personality and was always smiling.

It is for people like Chris, Candido and Jeff, together with their families that Brain Tumour Support is there. They look to ensure that no one feels alone facing the effects of brain tumour diagnosis and that practical and emotional support is provided from the beginning to as long as it is needed.

Please give generously!!!
